Build a Practical Home Espresso Workflow

Arrange beans, grinder, machine, scale, milk and cleanup so daily espresso is repeatable without taking over the kitchen.

Design the sequence

A good setup follows the order of work: water and beans, grinding, puck preparation, brewing, milk, serving and cleanup. Keep frequently used tools close while protecting them from steam and splashes.

A compact station

  • Leave safe ventilation and access around the machine.
  • Keep the scale and tamper dry.
  • Store towels separately for the steam wand and counter.
  • Place the knock box where the portafilter can reach without dripping across the kitchen.
  • Keep cleaning products labelled and away from food.

Reduce morning decisions

Use a written starting recipe, marked milk pitcher and dated cleaning schedule. A repeatable station is often more valuable than another machine feature.

Do not run appliance cords across sinks, hot surfaces or walking paths.
