Counter Space and Electrical Planning

Measure machine, grinder, working clearance, water access and electrical needs before buying home espresso equipment.

Measure the working footprint

Product width and depth do not include the room needed to remove the water tank, fill a bean hopper, lock a portafilter or place a milk pitcher. Sketch the workflow at full scale if the counter is tight.

Electrical basics

Use a properly grounded receptacle and follow the appliance rating plate and local electrical requirements. High-powered appliances should not share overloaded extension cords or power strips.

  • Check cord reach without stretching.
  • Keep plugs and cords away from water and steam.
  • Confirm overhead cabinet clearance.
  • Provide ventilation specified by the manufacturer.

Water and waste

Reservoir machines need comfortable refill access. Plumbed machines may require approved water treatment, shutoffs, drains and professional installation.

Electrical certification marks and local approvals matter. Do not assume an online product is approved for use in Canada or the United States.
