Buy an amount you can use

A well-sealed bag kept in a cool, dry cupboard is often more practical than elaborate storage. Repeatedly opening a large supply exposes it to air, so smaller purchases or divided portions may help.

Storage basics

  • Keep beans away from the stove, sunlight and steam.
  • Close the original valve bag firmly or use a suitable airtight container.
  • Avoid storing beans beside strong odours.
  • Do not refrigerate a frequently opened daily bag; condensation and odours can become problems.

Freezing can work when planned

Longer-term portions can be sealed with little air and frozen. Let a sealed portion reach room temperature before opening so moisture condenses on the outside of the package rather than the coffee.

Freshness changes grinder behaviour. A setting that worked last week may need a small adjustment today.
