Repair or Replace a Home Espresso Machine?

Evaluate symptoms, parts support, age, service cost and household needs before replacing an espresso machine.

Begin with safety and diagnosis

Unplug a machine that trips protection devices, smells burned, leaks near electrical components or behaves unpredictably. A qualified diagnosis is more useful than ordering random parts.

Factors that favour repair

  • The machine has available parts and service documentation.
  • The fault is a known wear item such as a gasket or valve.
  • The boiler, frame and electronics are otherwise sound.
  • Repair cost is reasonable relative to replacement and remaining life.

Factors that favour replacement

Repeated failures, obsolete proprietary parts, major corrosion, cracked boilers or repair estimates close to the cost of a suitable replacement can change the decision.
