French press is not espresso
A French press steeps coarse coffee in hot water and separates grounds with a mesh plunger. It produces a full-bodied brewed coffee without espresso pressure, concentration or crema.

| Factor | Espresso machine | French press |
|---|---|---|
| Method | Pressurized percolation | Immersion steeping |
| Serving | Small concentrated shot | Larger brewed cup |

Choose for the drink you want
French press suits people who want a rich, larger cup with minimal equipment. Espresso suits people who want concentrated shots and café-style milk drinks and accept more setup and maintenance.
Do not force the French press plunger if it binds. Press slowly on a stable surface and pour promptly.
